Poetry Thursday: Your task is to compose a poem or short story using all of the words below:

  • Rake
  • Golden
  • School
  • Apples
  • Jacket

More Fig Lang and Imagery practice:

Read “A Blessing” p. 405 and copy down three or more examples of imagery, cite the line numbers, and tell what senses they appeal to. Explain why this use of imagery is important and how it affects the reader.

Re-read “Once By the Pacific” p. 423 and copy down three examples of Personification (You may use your notes for this from the other day). Cite the line numbers and explain why you think the author included this personification and how it affects the reader.

Read “Tiburon” p. 430 and find the simile. Copy it down and cite the line numbers. Explain what is being compared, why you think the author chose this simile,  and how that comparison affects the reader.

Read “Folding WonTons In” p. 433 and look for the metaphor. Copy it down and cite the line numbers. What does the speaker compare the wontons to, and what might this suggest?
