Finish “A Sound of Thunder” Assessment a-sound-of-thunder

To do over the weekend: Continue playing around with your research topic – Make sure you will be able to find several credible sources that will help you answer your questions. It is EXTREMELY important that you have a solid topic with enough resources to be able to write a 2-4 (Honors 3-6) page paper – BEFORE you begin the actual note-taking process.

More on Figurative Language – watch this video on Fig Lang. To see Fig Lang used in popular songs, watch this video. This one also includes the greater purpose – not just a definition or recognition, but what  it means and why it is used.

Read pp. 402-403 about Imagery – in your purple Literature Book.

Work with a partner to Complete this Imagery Chart. There is one example provided.

  1. Imagery Practice: Choose ONE of the following poems. Read it and identify the types of imagery used (sight, sound, touch, taste, smell)
Woman Workby Maya Angelou p. 409
Dailyby Naomi  Shihab Nye p. 410
    in Justby e.e. Cummings p. 414
    Country Sceneby Ho Xuan Hu’o’ng p. 425

Create this chart to record your images. Pay particular attention to the effect the image has on the reader. “To make it more interesting” or to help me understand it better are NOT  valid reasons. Go deeper – HOW exactly does it help you understand or picture it better? On the back of your chart, explain in two or three sentences – the overall effect of the use of imagery in the poem – why do you think the poet chose this imagery?
