“Concise Writing” The goal of concise writing Lessons 1-4 ; The goal of concise writing Lessons 5-8

Choose a piece of prose (NOT poetry) from your Writing Portfolio (or Google Classroom) to revise, using the rules of Concise Writing we studied in class.

Here is a Powerpoint for final exam on Romeo and Juliet that will help you study for the Final. Additionally, study the “Shakespeare in the Classroom” handout you received, all the Literary Terms (see your notes), the Grammar, and Confused Words you have had this semester.

Daily Vocab: Gaslight – verb: to cause (a person) to doubt his or her sanity through the use of psychological manipulation – Because her husband wanted her inheritance, he was trying to gaslight her in an attempt to prove she was insane, thereby putting himself in charge of the estate.

Frigorific – adj: causing or producing cold – The polar vortex is frigorific, producing below zero temps in many parts of the country.

Writing: Write a well-developed paragraph that begins: If I won a million dollars… Include: What would you plan to do with the money? Would you share with friends or family? How would winning such a large sum of money affect you – emotionally? Intellectually? Mentally? What types of problems might you have because of your new wealth? Describe any “good” this wealth might bring you and any “evil” this might bring you.

Note: Friday, you will be working with counselors for 10th grade registration. Begin thinking about which classes you would like to take next year.

Honors English

Worked in partnered groups to share evidence supporting your characterization of either Rainsford or General Zaroff, choose 3 words based on evidence that describe the character’s personality, and come up with a general overall statement to be used as a topic sentence for your paragraph.

Begin working on the 12-Sentence Paragraph describing your character. Use the 12-sentence format for writing about literature . Here is an example of a characterization paragraph on Juliet Capulet (Romeo and Juliet) 12 sent para structure with Juliet example. Please do NOT label or highlight your sentences.

Paragraph Due: Tomorrow – NEATLY handwritten or typed, double-spaced

Begin writing assignment: Choose ONE theme Theme Paper 955 2015 to write about, using the 12-sentence paragraph format 12 sent para structure with Juliet example.
